GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Senior Accountant/Business Manager is responsible for fund accounting, bookkeeping, financial reporting and forecasting, and contract invoicing work. Includes responsibility for preparation of audit working papers for external audit, government/private fund/contract audits, and audit operations on a daily basis according to agency and professional accounting standards. Manage other agency business functions including insurance, employee benefits, facilities upkeep and maintenance, building lease, utilities, etc.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain, audit, advise and ensure that internal accounting procedures and controls are in place and are followed.
2. This will include, but is not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts and deposits, payroll, and sales reporting in accordance with standard accounting practices and procedures;
3. Send or oversee sending of collection letters and report on aging invoices;
4. Maintain the General Ledger on daily, weekly and monthly basis;
5. Daily reporting of cash flow with the Executive Director;
6. Monthly bank reconciliation;
7. Monthly allocation of expenses across grants, contracts and departments;
8. Petty cash custodianship;
9. Provide financial reports to the Executive Director and, as directed by the Executive Director, to the Treasurer, Board of Directors, and department managers on a monthly basis;
10. Generate monthly contract billings for all grants and contracts. Will submit to the Executive Director forms ready for signature, for forwarding to appropriate federal, state or local funding sources;
11. Responsible for setting up bill payments in conjunction with cash flow to ensure that they are paid in a timely manner and avoiding any penalties, late charges or other fees;
12. Responsible for maintenance of fiscal records required by funding sources, state, and federal agencies;
13. Coordinates annual audit with independent auditor and provides audit information as required by individual funding sources;
14. Assure timely completion and distribution of semi-monthly staff payroll. Submit all completed documents to Human Resources for filing. Will act as agency liaison to contracted payroll service;
15. Develop agency fiscal year budgets in coordination with all program departments; prepare budget proposals for grants based on previous contract expenses;
16. Act as QuickBooks administrator and maintain preferences, utilities and other related activities.
17. Manage other agency business functions including insurance, employee benefits, facilities upkeep and maintenance, building lease, utilities, etc.
18. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers and suppliers;
19. Community and professional involvement;
20. Perform other related duties as needed or as assigned by Executive Director.

Education: Bachelors Degree in accounting or finance required. Masters in accounting or business management or CPA preferred.

Experience/Knowledge:
Five or more years of accounting experience, preferably within a non-profit organization reliant upon grant funding. Familiar with FASB accounting standards and principles. Experience in Quickbooks and/or other accounting software programs. Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Outlook. Developed business management skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Familiarity with Deaf culture, knowledge about Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people, and fluency in American Sign Language is a definite plus. Willingness to become familiar and to acquire at least basic signing skills is essential (learning opportunities will be provided).

Skills:
Ability to perform tasks requiring independent judgment with speed and accuracy. Ability to utilize a Windows PC networked computer with QuickBooks, spreadsheet, and word processing software. Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines. Maintain a professional image with staff, contractors and clients. Excellent English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and editing skills. Ability to work in a team-oriented, diverse environment is required. Ability to interact effectively with all personnel and the general public.
