Who Pays for interpreting?
.

Interpreting services are provided on a fee-for-service basis. DCS does not have the funding to provide free interpreting services. Our basic rate is $60.00 per hour, with a 2-hour minimum, plus a charge for travel and parking. Rates for evenings, weekends, and holidays are at other rates. Further information can be obtained from our interpreter- scheduler at interpreting@dcsofsd.org or scheduler@dcsofsd.org

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that equal access be provided to persons with disabilities by all public entities (for example, government offices, courts, public schools, etc.) and by all services which are provided to the public at large (for example, doctor's offices, medical clinics, hospitals, lawyers, etc.). Generally, this means that such entities are required to pay for interpreting services. However, there are exceptions, because the ADA law also provides that services such as interpreting are not required if providing them would constitute an undue financial burden on the agency or organization. If you are having difficulty in obtaining needed interpreting services, please contact our office and ask for an appointment with one of peer counselors/advocates. We are often able to help resolve these situations.
