Types of
Interpreting
The Sign Language Interpreting Service of DCS aims to
provide effective communication support to persons who
are Deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, or deaf-blind,
and to those with whom they wish to communicate. Our
interpreters are skilled in a broad variety of communication
modes, and are trained professionals who have passed
rigorous testing forcertification at the national levels.
Our services include:
American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation
- PSE and Signed English transliteration
- Interpretation or transliteration in specialized
settings such as medical, legal, corporate, technical,
mental health, educational, and performing arts
- Oral interpreting for Deaf or hard of hearing persons
who depend on speechreading (lipreading)
- Tactile and/or close-visual interpreting or transliterating
for persons who are deaf-blind or who have combined
hearing and visual impairments
- Coordination of communication services for large
venue or multi-interpreter events, such as conferences,
seminars, and workshops
- Consultation regarding the Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA) and communication accessibility
- Coordination of Real-Time Captioning or CART (Communication
Access Real-time Transcription) or CAN (Computer Assisted
Note-Taking)
All services are provided on a fee-for-service basis,
with a 2-hour minimum.
