Selecting an Interpreter

Group of interpretersSelecting an interpreter is first of all a matter of matching the skills and abilities of our interpreting staff with the information provided in your request for interpreting services. Part of this has to do with the type of interpreting you are interested in and part of it has to do with your preferences that you tell us. For example, you might prefer a woman interpreter to work with you during a visit to your gynecologist. The more you can explain the details of your situation to our trained interpreter scheduler, the better of a match we can make.

If you have a particular interpreter that you would like, please let us know that interpreter's name, and we will do everything possible to make that happen. Please understand, however, that your preferred interpreter may not always be available at the particular time or place that you need interpreting services. Our trained interpreter scheduler will explain to you whether or not your preferred interpreter can be available at the time or for the situation you have requested.

Another important consideration in selecting an interpreter is the timing of your request. The farther ahead of time you request an interpreter, the more likely it will be that we can meet all your needs or provide a particular interpreter. The later we receive a request, the more difficult it will be to meet all of your preferences or to schedule a particular person as your interpreter. There is a very limited number of interpreters, and our interpreters tend to be kept quite busy most of the time.
